ABSTRACT

This paper aims to introduce a modeling methodology based on the Coloured Petri Nets (CPNs) formalism to design a generic software port process simulation tool capable of making easier the design and management of port terminals. CPN is a graphic-analytical formalism, which is able to represent in a natural way a discrete event system. CPN can also be used to describe any discrete event orient system (DEOS) with synthesis and accuracy so that a simple, robust and easy to modify model could be obtained. The paper also highlights the importance of using a generic reusable model by parameterizing the port terminal system. The proposed procedure allows attaining a new scenario just by specifying those parameters that characterise a particular harbour system.
